My Accountant Was Terrible: Why This Makes Us Mad
Often on a call with a potential client, the business owner is quick to inform me that they have had a poor experience with an accountant in the past. When I explain what we do, they reply that their last accountant said he would do that too, but he never delivered on that promise. Or their last accountant said she would perform those tasks, but when they were performed they were either littered with errors or late. It’s disheartening when a business owner has been let down by an accountant in the past. It makes my customer service veins boil when I hear how these poor business owners have been treated- as if they didn’t have enough going on, now they have to deal with a bad accountant too. Its easy to see why they develop an aversion to future accountants, or they begin to think “well i could have done that myself”. In all likelihood, a poor accounting job done by a mediocre account probably could have been done by the business owner- and maybe even with more accuracy.
